TEDDINGTON AND HAMPTON AREA GUIDE

Teddington

Hampton

Teddington

Teddington is located in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Historically in the former county of Middlesex, it is on the north bank of the Thames just after the start of a long meander, between Hampton Wick and Strawberry Hill, Twickenham. It stretches from the Thames to Bushy Park with a long high street reaching down to pubs, restaurants, leisure facilities, fields and fitness clubs by the riverside, and has a pedestrian suspension bridge over the lowest non-tidal lock on the Thames, Teddington Lock. Teddington has no dual carriageways or high-rise residential buildings and its centre comprises mid-rise urban development.

Hampton

Hampton is a peaceful suburban area on the north bank of the River Thames, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Hampton includes the park-facing main streets and mews buildings of Hampton Court which became rebuilt and reconfigured as a Royal Palace. Hampton is served by two railway stations, including one north of Hampton Hill and one immediately south of Hampton Court Bridge in East Molesey.

Property

Hampton and nearby Teddington mainly comprises a combination of old and new; from Victorian and Edwardian cottages and small family homes to new build apartments and townhouses. There are several semi-new developments as well as a selection of Victorian conversion flats and maisonettes.

There are several areas of particular interest and desirability. Often called the “river roads”, Broom Water and Broom Water West back on to an artificially created creek and are highly desirable locations. Teddington Park Road and Waldegrave Park offer spacious family homes. On the southern end of Twickenham Road there is a row of detached, pebble-dashed houses in the Arts & Crafts style which are listed as being of townscape merit. There are pretty Victorian villas and terraces in the Park Road conservation area close to Teddington station.

Hampton has a wide range of homes, from period cottages to Georgian houses, Victorian terraces, semi-detached and detached houses and houses and flats from the Twenties onwards. At Taggs Island, on the Thames, close to Hampton, there are houseboats ranging from the ramshackle to the glamorous.
