Thames Ditton and Long Ditton sit between Esher and Surbiton on the River Thames in the borough of Elmbridge. Thames Ditton has a large inhabited island on the river but is otherwise on the southern bank, located just over 12 miles from central London.
The heart of Thames Ditton village is the high street and shopping area surrounded by residential, schools and sports areas. Its riverside is situated opposite the Thames Path and Hampton Court Palace Gardens and golf course in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.
Thames Ditton joins Long Ditton and Weston Green in occupying the land between Surbiton, Esher and East Molesey.
Thames Ditton sits partly within a conservation area. The village high street retains a a number of shops and convenience stores as well as other amenities. In nearby Summer Road there is a newsagents, convenience store, dry cleaners and an interior designer. There are four pubs in the village, two with riverside frontages.
At Winter’s Bridge on the Portsmouth Road there is a small parade of shops that includes a nationally recognised patisserie and chocolatier. There is another off-licence, a pharmacy and newsagent on Thorkhill Road, formerly Workhouse Lane.
The village has a Residents’ Association, which was formed in 1934. The Residents’ Association holds all three seats for the ward on Elmbridge Borough Council, and the Surrey County Council seat for the Dittons.
A small United Reformed Church was added in the 19th century. The Vera Fletcher Hall “The Theatre in Thames Ditton” is located on Embercourt Road, near Thames Ditton railway station. There is also an old historic village hall.
At the heart of the community is the high street, just beyond the cricket pitch on Giggs Hill Green at one end, with the River Thames at the other. Here you’ll find a mix of centuries old housing plus specialist, independent shops including a delicatessen, greengrocers, supermarket, florist, silversmith, post office, antique shop, art gallery, bakery, hairdressers, cafes and more. The perfect destination to shop, relax and enjoy the company of friends and family.
The Thames Ditton Farmers Market is held at the George and Dragon Car Park on the high street, taking place on the fourth Saturday of each month between 9am – 1pm. For more information and contact details please visit: Thames Ditton Farmers Market
